Social Orbits
A private map of your people

Keep your people in orbit.

Social Orbits gathers everyone you know from Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and your contacts into one map, arranged by how close they are. Each morning it shows who is due for a call. It lives on your own Mac.

Each orbit's period is how often you aim to be in touch. Tap a planet.
Five orbits

The closer the orbit, the shorter the period.

You place each person in an orbit. Its period becomes their check-in rhythm, and Social Orbits reminds you when someone is overdue.

Inner

7day orbit
about 5 people

Family and best friends. The people you would call first.

Close

30day orbit
about 15 people

Good friends you want to hear from every month.

Active

90day orbit
about 50 people

Friends and colleagues you catch up with each season.

Extended

365day orbit
about 150 people

People worth a note on their birthday or once a year.

Acquaintance

∞no schedule
about 500 people

Known and placed, with no reminders.

The sizes follow Dunbar's layers, the research finding that people keep about 5, 15, 50, 150 and 500 relationships at decreasing levels of closeness. You set your own periods for anyone.

How it works

From scattered contacts to one map.

  1. Download your data

Request your exports from Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram, and export your iPhone or Google contacts. Each service emails you a file.

  2. Drop the files in

Add the files to Social Orbits on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.

  3. One person per human

Duplicates across apps merge by shared email, phone or profile. You confirm the uncertain ones.

  4. Place your people

Put your closest people in orbits and add a few notes. The more you add, the more useful it gets.

  5. Open Today

Each morning, see who is due, whose birthday is coming, and what you promised to follow up on.

Privacy

Your map stays with you.

On your Mac

Your contacts, notes and map live on your own computer. There is no Social Orbits account and no server holding your data.

On your iPhone, privately

Open your map on your phone through a private network that only your own devices can join.

Your notes, your words

The people in your map are other people's details. Social Orbits never shares them, never posts and never messages anyone for you.

Beta

Starting with friends and family.

The first version of Social Orbits is in a private beta, set up one person at a time. Join the list and you will get a download link and a short setup guide when there is a spot.

Join the beta
